Laura Van Zandt

Hi, I’m Laura! I’m a pediatric occupational therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting children and families, and a certified pediatric sleep consultant. My background gives me a unique perspective on sleep because I understand that sleep isn’t just about routines—it’s influenced by development, sensory processing, regulation, temperament, and family dynamics.

As both an OT and a mom, I know that every child is different. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all sleep training. Instead, I work closely with families to create personalized, evidence-based sleep plans that align with your child’s needs, your parenting values, and your family’s goals.

Whether you’re navigating newborn sleep, frequent night wakings, early rising, nap challenges, or sleep concerns related to neurodivergence or developmental differences, my goal is to help you feel confident, supported, and empowered every step of the way. Together, we’ll build healthy sleep habits that are sustainable, compassionate, and designed specifically for your family.
My philosophy

There is no single “right” way to teach healthy sleep. I partner with families to develop realistic, personalized strategies that respect both the child’s needs and the parents’ comfort level.

Bedtime Anxiety
I recently worked with a 9-year-old experiencing significant anxiety-related sleep difficulties. By collaborating with the family to understand bedtime fears, emotional regulation needs, and sleep habits, we developed a plan that improved both bedtime confidence and overnight sleep consistency.

In another case, I supported a 2½-year-old autistic child whose sleep difficulties were closely connected to sensory processing differences and established sleep associations. By tailoring recommendations to the child's sensory profile and developmental needs, we were able to help the family create more predictable sleep patterns while respecting the child's individual strengths and challenges.

I also helped a 10-month-old transitioning from co-sleeping and nursing multiple times overnight. “Unique” doesn’t even begin to describe this little one’s journey. Supporting this family brought me right back to the heart of why we become parents—the deep bond we long for and the strength we often don’t realize we have. After two weeks of working together, this little one is now confidently sleeping in his own crib space. Watching the parents’ pride and relief was truly a gift.

Laura was kind and listened to all my concerns regarding my daughter's sleep. She is very knowledgeable and really cares about helping families improve their child's sleep. Transitioning our daughter from two naps to one felt overwhelming, and we weren't sure how to make the change without disrupting her sleep. She gave us the information we needed to be able to start the transition and make it smoother. My daughter is very sensitive to becoming overtired so she kept that in mind with all her suggestions. What I appreciated most about working with Laura was that her approach was tailored to our daughter's needs rather than a one-size-fits-all method. I have worked with other sleep consultants that send you a basic schedule and send you on your way, not thinking of the individual child. If you are struggling with sleep you will not regret working with Laura. I would 100% recommend her.

Laura was knowledgeable and empathetic to our needs. Although we did not end up going through sleep training, we did go on a discovery call with her which was extremely informative and she even provided tips and tricks during the call which I could apply before embarking on a program with her. Highly recommend!

Laura was incredibly kind and helpful in getting my son sleep-trained. Before working with her, he would cry for hours at bedtime, but she took the time to ask thoughtful, specific questions about his sleep habits and gave us practical advice that made a huge difference. She’s also extremely responsive and always gets back to messages quickly. Highly recommend! Sourced from Yelp.

If you’re on the fence about working with a sleep trainer, like I was, this is your sign -- Laura is incredible. She helped us with our child’s sleep in a way that felt supportive, personalized, and actually doable for our family. What I appreciated most was how she balanced expertise with empathy. She truly listened to our concerns, answered all of our questions, and gave us a clear plan that worked. Within a short time, we saw huge improvements -- better sleep for our child and for us. It honestly felt life-changing. Laura was encouraging every step of the way, and her confidence gave us confidence. If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, or just unsure where to start, I cannot recommend Laura enough. She’s knowledgeable, kind, and absolutely worth it. Sourced from Yelp.

Frequent night waking
★★★★★

I cannot recommend Laura enough. Our 10-month-old had extremely challenging sleep habits -- he wouldn’t even lie down in the crib for 20 seconds, and nights were a struggle for our whole family. Laura came in with a fully personalized, modified sleep training method tailored specifically to him. What truly sets her apart is the level of support she provides. She was always available, answering our messages, guiding us through tough moments, reassuring us when we doubted ourselves, and hopping on calls when needed. Thanks to her expertise and her constant emotional support, our son now sleeps through the night -- something we truly thought was impossible. Working with Laura has been life-changing for our family. Thank you!!! Sourced from Yelp.
