Laura Van Zandt

Hi, I’m Laura! I’m a pediatric occupational therapist with over 15 years of experience supporting children and families, and a certified pediatric sleep consultant. My background gives me a unique perspective on sleep because I understand that sleep isn’t just about routines—it’s influenced by development, sensory processing, regulation, temperament, and family dynamics.

As both an OT and a mom, I know that every child is different. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all sleep training. Instead, I work closely with families to create personalized, evidence-based sleep plans that align with your child’s needs, your parenting values, and your family’s goals.

Whether you’re navigating newborn sleep, frequent night wakings, early rising, nap challenges, or sleep concerns related to neurodivergence or developmental differences, my goal is to help you feel confident, supported, and empowered every step of the way. Together, we’ll build healthy sleep habits that are sustainable, compassionate, and designed specifically for your family.
My philosophy

There is no single “right” way to teach healthy sleep. I partner with families to develop realistic, personalized strategies that respect both the child’s needs and the parents’ comfort level.

Case Studies

I recently worked with a 9-year-old experiencing significant anxiety-related sleep difficulties. By collaborating with the family to understand bedtime fears, emotional regulation needs, and sleep habits, we developed a plan that improved both bedtime confidence and overnight sleep consistency.

In another case, I supported a 2½-year-old autistic child whose sleep difficulties were closely connected to sensory processing differences and established sleep associations. By tailoring recommendations to the child's sensory profile and developmental needs, we were able to help the family create more predictable sleep patterns while respecting the child's individual strengths and challenges.

I also helped a 10-month-old transitioning from co-sleeping and nursing multiple times overnight. “Unique” doesn’t even begin to describe this little one’s journey. Supporting this family brought me right back to the heart of why we become parents—the deep bond we long for and the strength we often don’t realize we have. After two weeks of working together, this little one is now confidently sleeping in his own crib space. Watching the parents’ pride and relief was truly a gift.
